Report from the Virtual Critique Group

The Virtual Critique Group met on October 24th. Of the seven artists attending, five had submitted work for critique. Attending were Diane Harris, Polly Freidrichs, Donna Stalbion, Linda Ramrath, Ree Fagan, Margaret Boyer, and Sarah Aubry.

Submitted for critique: Some of the work was finished, some was in process. All of the submitted pieces were diverse in how each artist approached and constructed their quilts. 

Sarah shared cursory research about non-toxic printmaking methods such as paper lithography, EZ Screen, Smart Plates, plexiglass drypoint, and Citrasolv image transfer, along with several samples of transferred images of her drawings/paintings, shown below. 

Quilt National discussion: Ree Fagan shared Judy Kirpich's tips for getting into Quilt National. (Judy Kirpich was one of this year's jurors, and the tips were on Judy's blog.) Ree showed the piece she had submitted to Quilt National, and we discussed the importance of photography, artist statements, materials and methods, the artist's voice, construction skills, and knowing where and when to submit your work. There was also a short discussion about the differences between the various quilt shows such as  Art = Quilt, Quilt.con, Visions, Quilt National, MQX, AQS, and Surface Design. 

You don't need to submit work for critique in order to join the meeting. The work you do submit does not need to be finished. If you'd like to develop your sense of seeing, please join in.
